In this three-part series, we'll discuss where you should focus your cleaning efforts during this time of year.
In today's post, we'll cover outdoor areas, as the weather is still warm enough to tackle these tasks comfortably. As the season progresses, we’ll move indoors to review where to focus your time over the next few autumn weekends.
Outdoor Cleaning Checklist:
Inspect your roof. Look specifically for loose shingles and secure them as needed. If a task like this feels daunting, consider calling a professional roofer.
Clean gutters and downspouts while you’re up there.
Check your chimney for cracks, loose bricks, or other structural issues.
Wash all exterior windows and shutters.
Remove window screens and install storm windows if applicable.
Turn off and winterize the pipes that feed any outdoor faucets.
Winterize outdoor pools and water features.
Clean and store outdoor furniture.
Service and store gardening equipment.
Complete an outdoor home inspection.
Sweep and inspect chimneys and fireplaces.

Cleaning your gutters will save you thousands in repair costs down the line.
